Bible Reading

Being that we are still at the beginning of the New Year, I thought I’d share the top 5 New Year’s Resolutions for 2018!!

1. Eat healthier

2. Work out more often

3. Make better financial decisions. Save more and spend less

4. Find the love of my life

5. Spend more time with family and friends

You know Jesus actually gives us a resolution that is worth living out found in the book of Matthew 6:33 (NIV),“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”.

Setting New Year’s resolutions is a great idea, but I believe one of the best ways that we can step into the New Year is by setting our \ resolutions around God. What better way to do that than by making a decision to read God’s word (The Bible) daily in 2018. Now that’s a goal worth living out this year!

Having a goal to read the Bible daily this year is a resolution that is both noble and realistic. Now before we dive into scripture let’s get our motivation for daily Bible reading right. Why do we read the Bible? Bible reading is meant to deepen our personal relationship with Christ. Through the reading of God’s word, we begin to grow in closer communion with Him as we grow in His Truths. The Bible is 100% inspired by God and 100% relatable to our lives!

Now that we have some solid motivation for reading the Bible, here are tips to help you succeed in your goal of daily Bible Reading:

Routine

A lack of motivation usually comes from a lack of routine. If you don’t have a plan, you are planning to fail. Personally, my time is in the morning right after I get out of bed. Maybe the best time for you is in the afternoon or even at night. No matter what time of the day, establishing a routine time every day can help your Bible reading habits.

Start a Bible Reading Plan

A bible plan serves as a great aid in walking you through the scriptures. There are so many to choose from. You can choose a plan to read the Bible in one year, a chronological plan, the New Testament plan, a marriage plan, a Study Bible plan, or any number of other plans. There is no wrong choice here. A great tool to help you select a plan is the YouVersion Bible App. You can download this App to your phone or PC!

Journal

Journaling is an excellent way to enhance your Bible reading. Use a journal to write down what God is teaching you through His Word. Write things that stick out to you and write down your questions. You can even write down prayers! Writing will help you retain more and will help you process what you just read. One of the best things about journaling is being able to look back through your thoughts and being reminded of God’s faithfulness in our lives.

My hope is that we would all build the healthy habit of daily Bible reading this year and watch God move in and through us!
